Cherry Nut Bread

Cherry Nut Bread- 1 loaf.

1 (10 oz.) jar maraschino cherries (reserve juice)
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350°. Drain and chop cherries, reserving juices. Mix flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Cream sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla in a separate large bowl. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition. Fold in cherries and nuts. Pour into a greased 9×5 loaf pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Mix powdered sugar with enough reserved cherry juice to form a glaze. Pour over slightly warm bread.
